“Linda and I built a house in Florida in 2002, we are selling our house located in the Catskill Mountains of New York. In 2012 we decided to take a vacation to the Catskill Mountains and realized that even though we love the mountains of Florida. we started exploring the Blue Mountains of North Carolina (similar to the Catskills) a mountain community that we found to be the most beautiful in western North Carolina. Not knowing much about log homes, I asked the Log Home Council for information. Well, our mailbox has started receiving information from several log house companies. Then we started to get excited and seriously interested in building a wooden house in the mountains. A homebuilder we found, Steve Wallin of Custom Homes Asheville. We looked at several housing companies, including Honest Abe Log Homes. Based on Steve’s recommendation and the package we received from Honest Abe’s dealer, Darlene Dawson of Bar’s Den Log Homes, we contacted Darlene. We started to feel equally comfortable with both Darlene and Steve on the phone. On a visit to the mountain community known as Grandview Peaks, we met Steve and Darlene and another builder to decide and purchase a lot. After meeting everyone and seeing their work, both my wife Linda and Darlene and Steve took it very seriously and signed the contract the next day.

Darlene and Steve made a great team and built our beautiful home. From day one to the last project, he stayed connected and worked out every detail to build our home. We have received many compliments from other homeowners, construction workers and friends about the house that we now have a beautiful beam.
