Create a comfortable office space with the right furniture
The most natural position for the human body is when it is standing. are at their best.
Todays modern world requires us to spend most of our time sitting in front of our computers which is completely opposite to our bodys natural position. Prolonged sitting is the number one cause of work-related injuries. Hence it is important to consider ergonomics and use comfortable furniture in the workplace.
Ergonomics is the application of scientific and technical principles in the design of objects and systems to optimize the use of the human body in order to reduce or prevent pain and injury to the body during continuous use of the objects and systems. Workplaces should respect the use of ergonomic office furniture to minimize injury to the users body during the workday.
To create a working space using ergonomic office furniture we must consider four elements: the angle of the computer the lighting of the space the position of the keyboard and mouse and the support on the chair used.
The Computer Monitor
You should be aware of the fact that when you keep your computer monitor on your desk you have to look at it for a long time sometimes for hours. So you need to protect your eyes from glare caused by the light reflected from your computer monitor.
An ergonomic way to do this is to sit at your desk and place your computer monitor as far away as you can without hindering your ability to read everything on your monitor. Ideally your monitor should be 20 inches away from you maybe more.
The angle of the head should be 15 degrees below the center of the screen to reduce eye strain. The neck should also be bent so that the head is perpendicular to the floor.
The Lighting
Proper lighting is essential for creating an ergonomic workplace. Too much light can cause glare and glare that can damage the eyes. Lighting in an ergonomic workplace should be moderately bright. By this we mean that on a clear day the light in the room should be as bright as outside and the light in the room should be at right angles to the monitor.
There is radiation in the eyes. It helps blend fluorescent bulbs with incandescent bulbs that provide a warm light thats comfortable for the eyes.
The Keyboard and the Mouse
The way you hold your hands and arms while typing and clicking the mouse is very important for preventing wrist injuries including the development of carpal tunnel syndrome. Ergonomic principles require that the keyboard and mouse be placed at a negative angle to the screen. This will keep your wrists straight to rest on the keyboard.
Use a desk with an adjustable keyboard and mouse pad to do this. The plate should be angled so that the youngsters head is away from you. Never place your keyboard on your desk; As you do this keep your arms at an angle to your body. You can also leave the keyboard on the back to support the keyboard. Using the keyboard without holding it away from you is against ergonomics. Just to add your mouse must be on the same plane as your keyboard.
Also lift your wrist instead of resting it while typing. Use this wrist rest only when you are not typing.
The Chair
An important part to consider when creating your ergonomic office space is your chair. The chair you should get for yourself should be an ergonomic chair. An ergonomic chair will support your arms behind your shoulders and neck when you spend hours in front of your computer.
Your ergonomic chair should be adjustable so that its height allows your feet to rest flat on the floor. The curve of the back of an ergonomic chair should also match the curve of your back. The edge of the seat should be at least one centimeter from the back of the knee. The seat of an ergonomic chair should also be wide enough to accommodate your hips and thighs without being narrow or restrictive. An ergonomic chair with a high back can also provide support for your shoulders and neck.
Following the principles of ergonomics and using ergonomic office furniture in your workplace can go a long way in reducing injuries to your body in the workplace. Be kind to your body and arrange your office with ergonomic office furniture!
