A: Growing up in the Detroit area, I heard a lot of really good things about it. It was a school that took its work very seriously and, according to many, approached things from a practical perspective. Q: Do you have a favorite memory from your time at school?

A: I enjoyed the sense of competition and passion during my time in the design studio. So many of us pushed ourselves to the limit and you saw so many amazing concepts and ideas. It was impossible not to sit between talented colleagues and staff who are always ready to challenge you.
Steven is currently the Midwest Regional Director for Health Interiors Studio at HKS. Throughout his career, he has achieved the following achievements: Healthier Materials and Sustainable Buildings Certification, Parsons School of Design, NCIDQ Certification, LEED Accredited Professional, and International Interior Design Association.
A: I have worked in healthcare most of my career. I have a passion for creating spaces that help create environments that influence people. Spaces that help reduce anxiety for patients, families and medical staff. Design that engages people on a multisensory level and thus contributes to positive experiences. At HKS we are fortunate to have research integrated into our design practice, so we really understand how design influences outcomes. Q: Tell us a little about your background.
A: In my current role, I am the Regional Director for Health Interiors Studio and am based in our Northville office. I have been very fortunate in my career to work all over the world, experience different places and meet incredible people. I love to travel for work and personal to explore and discover new experiences. Q: Do you have any advice for those who might be interested in interior design?

A: I graduated with a Masters in Interior Design from Lawrence Technological University in 2011. I have been a LEED Accredited Professional since 2009 and was recognized by the Interior Design Qualification Board in 2015 for successfully completing training, experience and testing standards. .Q: What made you go to Lawrence Tech?
A: I wanted to stay close to home and I also had a more technical-creative mindset, which made Lawrence Tech a good fit for me. Knowing that there were plenty of adjunct professors at Lawrence Tech, I was also confident that I could connect with educators who were employed in the industry I wanted to enter. Q: For those who may be interested in studying interior design, do you have any advice?

A: During the design process, take stock of what you really like. Maybe you prefer presenting your ideas, choosing finishes/furniture or designing sexy spaces. The industry offers a lot of opportunities that will help you succeed if you listen and focus on what you love.

The Department of Interior Design prepares interior designers with strong professional and substantive experiences, able to engage in evidence-based design and with the ability to conduct and apply research. Cruise Ship and Superyacht Design – The Interior Design Department offers a unique curriculum that prepares designers for the specific issues involved in designing cruise ship and yacht interiors.
