Does the Cricut Design Space App run better on a PC or tablet? This question came up recently in my Facebook Group. There is a big difference in what will and won’t work with each of these devices. For me, a computer is best for running Cricut Design Space, but I also have a tablet. So let’s break it all down.

First of all, let’s look at the table. There are a few features that work on the Cricut Design Space iOS app and don’t work on a PC or laptop. I took pictures of them so you can see exactly which ones are not working on the computer but are being done on the iPad. Photo Canvas, 3D Layer Visualization, Smart Guides, and SnapMat.

Android Tablets have more features that DON’T work than they do. I’m sorry I have to tell you this. So if you are working on an Android Tablet, you are missing out on many great features that will make your work easier and more enjoyable. You can view the full list to compare the two on the Cricuts website.

For me, some of these features are important to me so I will get a PC or laptop to run the Cricut Design Space app. But I know several people who use the app on their phone or tablet and are fine. But it’s nice to know what you don’t understand.

There are System Requirements to run the app on your tablet. Here are the requirements for the iPad.

The app works well on a PC or laptop with Windows software on it. This is what I use and I have never had any problems running the software. There are requirements for this as well.

Utilizing Cricut Design Space & Cricut Explore Air 2

Design Space is not supported on Chromebooks, or Unix/Linux Computers. So while the Chromebook looks pretty cool in the ad, keep in mind that you can’t run the Cricut Design Space app on it.

The application runs on Apple Mac and the same thing runs on Windows. Here are the system requirements for Apple Mac.

Wherever you go, make sure you read the terms and conditions and find out what features you will or won’t get with that device.

I recommend a PC or a PC and a tablet. I like some of the features that are only available on the iPad and not on the computer. So I chose both. Remember…no Chromebooks.

Until now, the Cricut Design Space software was only available online through your website. As of January 29, 2020, the new software will only be available for desktop use on your PC or Mac computer. You still need an Internet connection to download or purchase Cricut images and fonts on your computer, however, you can use the designs offline on your machine.

Note: I am using Google Chrome to share this tutorial. If you are using a different web browser, your view may be slightly different.

Once you see that the file has been downloaded, double-click the file in your browser or navigate to the Downloads folder on your computer to select the file.

Depending on your computer and/or firewall settings, you may need to choose whether you trust the program to download.

Once you’ve installed the app, you’ll need to log in with your Cricut username and password. This is the only login you use for the online version.

After you enter the program, it will prompt you to select your machine. You can choose either Maker or Explore lens from the drop down menu.

You can now download Cricut images and fonts from the app for offline use. With an Internet connection, you can access everything through the Cloud. If you want to work with your files offline, you need to download the images.

Click on the image in the Design panel. Click on the image you want to download. You will see the Download button in the lower left corner. After uploading your photo, there will be a check mark next to the info button at the bottom right of the photo box.

Click on Text in the Design panel. From the font list, select the font you want to use. To the right of the font there will be a Download button. Again, there will be a check mark next to any font you have downloaded to your computer.

Fonts on your computer can be used online or offline with Cricut Design Space for Desktop.

When you first save a project, it will prompt you to choose whether you want to save it to Cloud & Computer or Cloud only. To access these settings, click on the three lines in the upper left corner. Select Settings.

Last but not least, if you use Cricut Design Space (either the iPad or Android version) online, you probably have many projects stored in the Cloud. You can access the desktop version anytime you have an Internet connection. To use them offline, navigate to your project page by selecting Project in the Design Panel.

From the drop-down menu at the top, select My Projects. Click the three small dots at the bottom right of any project. Then select Save for Offline.
