Free House Plans With Basements – Are you looking to expand your home? Basement with heating and cooling, electric, and finished walls and floors add valuable space and increase the value of the property.

Family room. Renovating your basement into a simple family room (without adding a bathroom or kitchen) is one of the cheapest ways to expand your basement area. Complete with sofa seating, TV and storage for games and toys, you have a relaxing area away from the main living room.

Game room. A ping pong or pool table requires a larger room than the average home, so how about turning your basement into a game room? When planning your layout, remember to leave at least 5 feet (1.5 m) of space around the pool table and 3-4 feet (1 m) around the table tennis table. Other popular small game room options include foosball, air hockey, darts and pinball. If your family likes cards and board games, add a square or round table and chairs.

Gym or exercise area. A basement gym is a great option for exercising at home. These spaces can be as simple as free weights, stretching and yoga rooms, complete with mirrors, or they can include equipment such as treadmills, exercise bikes, rowing machines or integrated weight machines. If you are including exercise equipment, remember two things: Be sure to plan the route to bring the large equipment to the place, and make sure that the ceiling height works when you are standing on top of the treadmill or stairmaster.

Guest room, in-law suite or rental unit. If you need extra space for guests or in-laws, converting your basement into a bedroom suite can be the perfect option. Ideas to consider: Plan for at least one bedroom, closet, and 3/4 bathroom. If you have the space, consider a sitting area, kitchen or mini bar area, and full size bathroom. It is also good to provide separate heating and cooling. When converting a basement into a bedroom, check the local building codes in your area – most of these spaces require two entrances/exits. For example, entry and exit windows in the basement of a home may not be higher than a certain height from the ground (see local codes).

Homework Have you dreamed of having a dedicated home office away from the hustle and bustle of your home? For this layout, plan for multiple outlets and strong Wi-Fi access when planning your space. If you spend a lot of time on video calls, consider adding additional soundproofing to walls and ceilings to block out household noise. Additional amenities may include a wet bar, coffee area, mini-fridge, and powder room. When planning your furniture, consider large desks, shelf space, filing cabinets, and bookcases to store supplies and provide space for your printer.

Children’s playroom or teenage room. Turn your basement into a playroom if you have kids, and turn it into a teenage hangout when you’re older. For younger children, consider child-sized tables and chairs, toy storage, bookshelves, craft areas and places to hang art. As they grow, add a taller homework table, TV, and comfy chairs for your teen get-together.

Laundry room, mud room and storage room. A large laundry/mud room and indoor drying area are ideal additions to a cold climate home. You can also add storage cupboards, storage areas or large wardrobes – perfect for storing skis, snowboards, boots and other large items.

Media room or home theater. For movie lovers, the dedicated theater room in the basement is a great option. In addition to a wide-screen TV, consider additional outlets, Wi-Fi access, and built-in surround sound to upgrade your audio. When you build a room, upgrades include adding extra soundproofing to the walls and raising the floor section for tiered seating. Check out the leather reclining seats for the ultimate cinema experience. If you have the space, a wet bar area with a mini-fridge is a great option for watching movies, and if you have a basement window, be sure to consider blackout curtains.

Music practice room. A dedicated music room is a dream come true for anyone who loves to make music. Add soundproofing to the walls and ceiling, plenty of outlets, a desk or table for equipment, and storage space for various instruments and equipment. Decorate the whole room with a concert poster or hang a guitar on the wall.

Wine room/tasting room. Do you want to share your wine tasting hobby with your family and friends? Imagine rows and rows of your favorite bottles of wine chilled to perfection and a beautiful wine glass cabinet. The bar area allows you to chat with friends while enjoying a drink, and the comfortable sofas are also a nice touch. Finally, the warm and comfortable decor creates the ultimate entertainment circle.

Workshop or craft area. Basement craft areas are a popular choice for those who want to keep a workshop area that can be unsightly from the main living room. Depending on your needs, add a large work surface, sewing area, work table or special storage space.

Combination. If your space is large enough, create a basement floor plan with multiple rooms to incorporate some of the above features. For example, family rooms, game rooms, and guest suites.
