Light And Airy Photography Presets

Light And Airy Photography Presets – Photographers and clients often tell me how much they love the look of my photos because they are light and bright and have a “light and airy” look. I usually gravitate towards natural and clean photos and I found this style. Finding your own style in photography can be difficult, but here are some tips to help you.

First of all, what do I mean by “light and airy”. This is a type of photography that usually means that the image has low contrast and soft colors.

It doesn’t matter what camera you have, you can get this effect, but using a prime lens (a lens with a fixed focal length) helps you get a sharper image at a lower aperture. You want to shoot with the widest possible aperture, usually between 1.8-2.5, to create a blurred background. A great prime lens doesn’t have to break the bank. If you have a Canon camera, you can start with the 50 1.8. This is a great starter prime lens to add to your kit. I am a Sony shooter and use the 55 1.8 lens for 95% of my wedding days.

Not all light is created equal, and the way you perceive light helps determine what style of photographer you are. You’ve probably heard of the “golden hour,” which is the hour before sunset. This is when the light is softest and helps create a beautiful glow around your couple. This is the best time for photos, but it is not possible to film everything at this time on the wedding day. Even when you’re in the middle of the day when the light is at its brightest, you can achieve a consistent look throughout the day. I usually always refer to my clients as “backlit” lights. I then highlight their skin tones to create a sense of spaciousness.

In the photo below, it was afternoon and I had no shade, so I positioned the group with their backs to the sun and created a beautiful image for them.

Some people think that overexposing a digital photo will help them achieve the look they want, when what you really want is to take a photo that is as fully exposed or slightly underexposed as possible. This will help preserve shadows and highlights and streamline the editing process. In the image below you will see my raw image and on the right my edited image.

When you first start photography, you may think there is a magic preset that will make your photos look just like your favorite photographers. Unfortunately this can’t be fixed with one click, but it helps you get where you want to go. Find presets based on what you’re looking for and then make adjustments accordingly. I’ve tried many presets along the way, but my favorite is the Archetypal Process preset. These presets helped me achieve the look I wanted with minimal adjustments.

Perhaps more than the other major styles of wedding and portrait photography, this style encompasses all elements of photography such as subject, clothing, composition, scene and lighting. While there are no “rules” to follow when creating light and airy images, here are some common features and general tips:

Simplicity is the key to achieving a light and airy look. Less important is the mindset of finding opportunities like shots, rebounds, movement/movement etc. Instead, strive to create simple and pure beauty, focusing on expression and light in the scene.

Light and airy photography is often ideal for images in pastel color palettes. Clothing and background styles often feature natural browns, greens, and subtle pinks, baby blues, and other “soft” colors. Of course, this is not always the case, but again, these are just general guidelines that lead to the desired look and a light and cheerful image.

Bright and airy photos often work better in portrait/portrait orientation. While most photographers using this style shoot both vertically and landscape, the proportions of a set of photos are often more important on the vertical side.
