Narrow Living Room Layout With Fireplace

Narrow Living Room Layout With Fireplace – We all wish we had living rooms in perfect condition. We all want to do everything perfectly. But they are mostly

In size and shape, but they may require some grinding. Meet the cramped living room – America’s most common living room problem. Our Design Agony customer Hilary wrote to us asking for help with her cramped living room, and here’s how we solved it:

Narrow Living Room Layout With Fireplace

I struggle with the layout of my living room, which is very narrow (eg 8.5′ wide from wall to fireplace surround). It acts as the main thoroughfare that runs through our home, and it’s hard to create a comfortable, inviting layout that you can walk through too.

Small Living Room Layouts That Maximize Space

We’re very lucky to have inherited a really great vintage modern furniture collection and some of these pieces are in that space now – but I don’t know if they’ll really work there. We want to use the existing furniture as much as possible, but we are ready to buy a new sofa. I also want to change the color scheme to include blue and/or pink so I’m ready to buy all new accessories including draperies and rugs.

Additionally, her husband was also interested in adding a sectional to the room, so they wanted to see a few placement options for where it would fit into the room.

From the above pictures, you can see that the room is very long and narrow, which means that we need to carefully consider the placement of furniture in the room. Although the fireplace is located in the middle of the room, it is not quite in the middle of the back wall. With the fireplace slightly off-center, it created a little corner for the credenza, but that means you can’t place the sofa directly opposite the fireplace if you want other furniture there. It’s not a layout disaster or the end of the design world as we know it, but some people like symmetry in their spaces. With all of this in mind, Ali came up with a few different layouts and we whittled them down to 6 different versions, two of which we included in the section we sent to Hilary below.

We don’t feel the uterine chair works where you have it. In this layout, we recommend moving it to the corner and replacing it with a smaller chair or one of the Vasili chairs. Thanks to the tubular frame of the Basil chair, the chair feels low and light, and fits better on this side of the room. We also like the coffee table’s oval shape and think this design would work well in tight spaces. However, we have offered a slightly larger version in the tulip Saarinen style (see furniture options). Depending on the size of your living room, you might want to go with an 8′ x 10′ rug, which would be the best option for the room unless you’re doing something special.

Designer Ideas To Overcome An Awkward Living Room Layout

If you want to keep your sofa and chairs, another idea is to upholster the sofa with two Vasili armchairs. Again, since these chairs are lighter, they help keep the space from being crowded. We don’t feel that the pendant lamp in the corner works and we think it is better as a light fixture in the dining room. To fill out the corner, we replace the pendant lamp with a plant or arc lamp, as shown in the furniture options.

If you’re willing to invest in new furniture, we’d recommend buying two smaller chairs and placing them against the window wall with a small accent table (perhaps a nice brass table) between them. You can then place another chair against these chairs and leave the sofa as it is.

Another piece of furniture to invest in would be a loveseat. The dimensions of the window wall are perfect for a smaller size loveseat. We even love the idea of creating something in lightweight leather to help bring warmth to the room. This option helps to provide more seating in the room. To complete the corner, we will suggest an arc-like lamp again.

We know you’ve been considering a sectional in your room, so for the last two options, we offer two different sectionals. The first option leaves things a little more open from the living room to the dining room. With this arrangement, we would recommend placing a mother’s chair or even a chaise longue in the corner of the window.

The final version will have a paragraph in the corner. Make sure the measurements match. We would recommend placing the short side against the window wall and the long section against the long wall opposite the fireplace. Then you can make a large chair or two smaller chairs opposite the section.

Along with the layout, we gave Hilary some options for additional furniture that could work with her existing furniture. That way he can pick and choose pieces and add them whenever he wants.

After a while Hilary started moving furniture and sent us a very sweet message.

Best Living Room Layouts For Your Floorplan

Wow – much more than I expected! Thank you! I tried one of the layout options (#1) and it is much better than what I have. I might consider buying some new parts to try one of the other layouts. Now I just need someone to style it and photograph it professionally so you can use it as blog content, LOL!

Here are some “half-finished” pictures if you want to blog about the project and use them. I still want a new bright rug and a new coffee table. But it’s progress – and it’s already made a big difference! My four year old and I now compete daily for the womb seat…

When the recliner and pouffe are moved into the corner, the area feels like a charming and deliberate study nook. The armchair creates a large space between living room and dining room. If you don’t have enough space for a chair and stool to happily float on their own, or if you don’t have a side table next to it, they really are perfect for a corner area like this.

Keeping the credenza/console to the left of the fireplace, as you can see in these pictures, is the best solution, because you can’t add a bench here, you can make a small bench instead, but the area will just be crowded. sitting alone.

How To Maximize The Potential In A Long, Narrow Living Room

Hilary still wants to replace the coffee table and rug, and we think an oval coffee table would be perfect here. This allows for an organic, long and easy flow. Saarinen would be a good choice as his stance gives him some ground without feeling too heavy. After writing this and looking at the pictures again, we would suggest replacing the mirror or artwork above the fireplace with a round mirror (like this or this ).

One option is to simply replace the mirrors or move the art above the console and then place the mirror above the fireplace. This will destroy part of that box on the back wall.

We’re excited to see where Hilary takes the space next and what pieces she brings to the space, but so far it’s looking great in the progress shots – big thanks to her for sending the photos. We are always very interested to see what you do after submitting your proposed plans.

Customer Feedback: Overall, the service far exceeded my expectations. I expected a layout option and the designers gave me Six! I also liked how the designers worked to my tight parameters – often an odd room arrangement with existing furniture. I would recommend this service to anyone!
