Steps To Build A Paver Patio – The most important aspect of any brick paver patio is the paver steps that are built to descend from the door wall. Over the years, I have watched many inexperienced landscapers or so-called brick contractors install improper steps on window doors. These are the door walls that protrude from the wall of the house with an open or supported floor.
Many skilled contractors try to wrap the wall and caps around the side openings and cover the wall with the window door. If you come across a brick installer offering to install window sills, you better run.

First of all, the builder will tell you that the opening below this window needs to have an open air to prevent the wood from rotting down. If it is closed, the humidity will be constant and the possibility of covering the floor inside the house will be reduced. Some of these windows have exhaust or intake fans that must be open.

Second, it is impossible to properly pack the base material of the bay window so that the parts of the walls and the walls do not break over time. After 28 years, I have never seen a stair tread that rolled and blocked a window that did not require regular maintenance and reset. It is one of the number one repair applications.
Equally important, building a stair frame that is not anchored close to the window door wall results in inferior design and installation. Close the window to close blocks and caps will stretch and collapse over time. When you build a 4-sided structure opposite the bay window, the tile structure is covered by itself and is therefore very strong for long-term success.
Basically, the 4-sided staircase structure has its own “back wall” to build on, as shown in these pictures. It is structurally sound and allows proper ventilation under the window opening of your tank. We can build straight or curved stairs at the front leading to the sidewalk.
Most homeowners overlook the importance of stair railings that lead to their brick patios. Poor design and installation will lead to years of frustration and safety issues. Tile steps require expertise and are not cheap to build. It is usually the most time consuming method of installing any brick. Homeowners take sidewalk steps and pay for the (near) future.
How To Build A Paver Patio
Functional and creative stone steps can be the focal point of a patio, walkway, patio or entryway. If you’re going to cut costs, make sure they’re not on the ladder. There have been previous jobs where we installed stairs and came back a year later to actually install the patio.
If your brick and mortar contractor is skimping on your tile design recommendations, it’s in your best interest to move forward. Make sure they provide you with a detailed description or picture of the set of screws you need to install. If you ignore these details about paving installation, you could be frustrated and frustrated for years.

Last summer we had our yard graded….there is a good spot in our yard and we wanted the patio to be graded to the existing driveway….which means our yard is 16” below the front door opening. That’s a small problem
Think we’ll need to put a step (or two) in there….one day. After all, the yard was completed in July. It was 6+ months ago

I did a safety inspection at the childcare home in November and found that there was no action on the patio door. Even though we don’t use it as an entrance or exit to the nursery, they said I still need to step in there in case of an emergency. So…..we started talking about our options.
Do we build one step directly to the door? Or do we take it to the corner?
The first thing we did was turn to the internet (and books) to get ideas for what we liked. Here are some of our top picks.
We love this one because it’s a circular design…which complements the frame yard perfectly;

This one has our favorite “landing” feature, but it will take up about 5′ of yard space;
This one showed us that we could build our own moves against the house…because honestly, we weren’t sure what to do with it.
Unfortunately the curves are off. It will take a lot of work, a lot of design and time, a lot of tools, a lot of cutting. It will also take up a lot of space. It’s just not in the cards.
The deep landing was also out. If the standard step is 11″… and we probably need two steps… If we build a landing, it will be at least 2′ m, which eliminates 3+ feet of yard space. . We just can’t do it.

So the next argument was a step or two… since we have a 16 inch drop. Maybe we should split the difference and make one step 7″ long instead of 8″. Should the step(s) go the length of the door opening, the length of the door, or do we take it all the way to the corner?
So we stayed up Friday night, brainstorming the general plan for Saturday morning. We both really liked the idea of building two steps with the bottom step leading to the corner (basically a combination of the two pictures above). We weren’t sure what to use for the landing. This was our first design.
But at the end of our discussion, we decided to keep it simple. Simply make one step 11 inches deep and 8 inches high, the width of the door. It would be easy and quick to complete. Transaction completed Problem solved, our program is ready to run next morning. We slept.
That plan wasn’t right. I mentioned this to Jim and he said he was thinking the same thing. See? Another example of how we are soul mates.

To scale It was just a rough sketch of what the landing step might look like.
A long, long, fast trip to Best Buy in the Urban Landscape of Tegula buildings and the Plaza stones of West Interlock (within the Jamestown complex now being built in our backyard)… rows of rows, then back to row 5 so that there is no cutting (that was a challenge in itself) then place the tegula blocks (each weighing 33lbs, which is difficult to mix) and then backfill with gravel, placing the gravel together. , filling the sand, putting the “steps” on top, then the 2nd row of tegula blocks, and then reorganizing and reorganizing, adjusting and balancing. briefly break it down to make it “fit”……
Easy to Clean It has the look we love from the top, the stones match our existing patio and we have a small landing to the right.
