During a call with investors, Alphabet CEO and Google CEO Sundar Pichai said YouTube Shorts, the video platform’s short video offering, has exceeded 15 billion daily views, up from the 6.5 billion daily views the company reported in March. Pichai also highlighted YouTube’s payments to creators — more than $30 billion has been paid to creators, artists and media organizations over the former three years — and said the video platform has paid YouTube partners and creators more than any other quarter in the company’s history.
Alphabet reported earnings of $61.88 billion for the second quarter, an increase of 62 percent over the prior year, and net income of $18.52 billion.
“In the second quarter, there was a growing wave of online activity in many parts of the world, and we are elated that our services have helped so many consumers and businesses,” Pichai said. “Our lengthy-term investments in AI and Google Cloud aid us accomplish significant improvements in the digital experience for everyone.”
